Ceramic Art for your space.
Hand thrown functional and non-functional pieces for your home. Contemporary ceramics hand thrown and trimmed with a watercolor feel. I get my inspiration from family trips to the beaches and mountains. Mother Nature and spontaneity of brushstroke allow for a fusion of color and feeling to evoke the beauty around us.
Sculptural vessels in large format, limited functional wares such as bowls, tea bowls, mugs, mixing bowls. Smaller works of art to define a space such as the “Gem series”. My glaze process involves numerous layers of studio mixed engobes, some commercial underglazes, sgraffito and carving, textural elements, sometimes wax resist, and layers of glaze. I love the surprise element of working with glaze to create something special and new each time I open the kiln.
Mid fired stoneware, lead free and dishwasher safe.
I began pottery as a child in 1973, having been inspired by a visit to potter Harry Hall in Cape Cod at an early age. My journey began at age 8 with Linda Capone, owner of Buttonwood Potters in Kingstown, MA. Every Saturday I would assist in her studio, whether it was recycling, sieving a glaze, or just simply having fun. This led to me assisting at the Fauniel Hall marketplace, creating work in her shop in Duxbury MA, and later continuing the journey with Steve Branfman at Thayer Academy and Regis Brodie at Skidmore College. I have taken my pottery to numerous locations, St. John USVI, Vashon and Seattle, WA and now home to the Green Mountains of Vermont.
I continue to be inspired by sometimes teaching children, creating the magical spark in their eyes. The rhythm of studio work adds to quality of everyday life. I hope you see and feel this every time you pick up a piece of my work.
